First Annual Student Research Conference on Topics in Asian Studies

The University of Maryland Baltimore County Asian Studies Council of Majors (ASCOM) is pleased announce that we will host a research conference for students attending academic institutions in the Baltimore and Greater Washington areas studying Asian Studies— topics drawing from political science, history, linguistics, arts, and culture in Asia.

This conference provides a forum for undergraduate and graduate students in Asian Studies to present their research and create networks with students at nearby academic institutions. ASCOM welcomes student research on a variety topics including but not limited to national security, democratization, environmentalism, comparative literature, arts, cultural studies, and philosophy.

The conference will be held at the University of Maryland Baltimore County on April 14, 2018. Interested participants should email an abstract no longer than three paragraphs to Julian Tash at asianstudiescouncil@gmail.com by no later than March 23.  Students submitting research should have a topical focus, but also examine how their research relates to larger themes and/or theoretical literature on Asia.

ASCOM also welcomes professors to sit as panelists at the conference. We are grateful to participating professors for their contribution to student research and local academia. An honorarium will be given to professors who participate as panelists.
